Send emailThe main symposium venue will be the Niigata University (新潟大学) library main hall, on the Ikarashi Campus. The university is in Niigata City (新潟市), which itself is in Niigata Prefecture (新潟県).
Additional social events, including the closing ceremony banquet, will be held off-campus, near the city centre.
We recommend that delegates stay in the vicinity of Niigata main station. A list of options for accommodation to suit a range of budgets will be provided here shortly. In the meantime, feel free to get in touch using the contact information above.
By air
Niigata has a small international airport, primarily for short flights within Japan or to nearby Asian countries. Delegates travelling from Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei, Osaka, or Fukuoka (or wishing to transit through those cities) may be able to find suitable flights. More details are available here.
Tokyo is served by two large international airports, Haneda and Narita. From Tokyo, it is straightforward to travel to Niigata by train. Detailed, step-by-step instructions for transferring from these airports to central Tokyo will be available for download here closer to the symposium date.
By land
Japan's trains are very comfortable and punctual. There are regular shinkansen ("bullet trains") between Tokyo and Niigata. Tickets can be purchased in Tokyo main station from a counter or a ticket machine. Detailed, step-by-step instructions will be available for download here closer to the symposium date.
There are also night buses which travel between Tokyo and Niigata, for those looking for a more budget-friendly option. More details are available here.
By sea
For completeness, it is worth mentioning that Niigata can also be reached by ferry from Hokkaido Prefecture (Otaru, Tomakomaihigashi), Akita Prefecture (Akita), and Fukui Prefecture (Tsuruga). More details available here.
The address of the campus is:
8050 Ikarashi 2-no-cho, Nishi-ku, Niigata 950-2181
It can be reached directly by bus or taxi, and there is also a local train station within walking distance.
Bus
Take bus line W21 from bus stop platform 5 at Niigata Station, Bandai Exit (50 min ride). Get off at bus stop “Shin-dai-naka-mon (新大中門)”, which is located almost in front of the center gate of Niigata University. The library is a 5 minute walk from the bus stop. Other bus lines travel from the station or other parts of the city to the university and its vicinity as well.
Train
The JR Echigo Local Line train, bound for either “Uchi-no (内野)” or “Yoshida (吉田),” takes around 22 minutes to get to “Niigatadaigaku-Mae (新潟大学前)” station. From there it is a 15–20 minute walk to the university. Walking directions from the station to the campus are provided here.

Taxi
The university can be reached from near the main station by taxi in about 30 minutes. The ride-hailing service Uber is available but relatively new (June 2025) in Niigata, so it may not be reliable.
